Class Structure:
As much as possible, students at KGIS are placed in classrooms with similar age students. This allows the teachers to create developmentally appropriate educational programs in which the books, educational materials, daily schedules, social skills, and academic skills are designed to meet that age groups particular needs. Within each classroom, teachers create lessons and activities that meet and challenge each individual student at his or her respective level.
When grouping students we organize our classes and plan our curriculum for the following age ranges:
- Toddlers: 24 – 36 months
- Pre-Schoolers: 3 – 5 years old
- Kindergarteners: 5 – 6 years old
- Primary School: 7 years old onwards
Curriculum
Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers
King Glory International School is a quality early childhood center that implements approaches to teaching based on research on how children develop and learn. We provide a warm and nurturing environment where teachers actively support the cognitive, socio-emotional, and physical development of children by providing a wide variety of age-appropriate learning experiences.
Our curriculum is based on research on how and what children learn at each stage of their development. Ours is a "language rich" environment where both native English speakers and English Language Learners expand their ability to speak and understand English. Students develop language through listening and speaking with teachers and classmates, singing songs, listening to stories, and specific activities designed to teach language skills and prepare children to read and write.
Through hands on activities, students develop their fine and gross motor skills. In addition to free play and exploration, students spend time in classroom like settings which require them to sit quietly, pay attention, listen to others, take turns speaking, and share materials all of which are crucial skills as they move into a more formal grade school setting.
Upon completing our pre-school program we expect students to be proficient in English and ready to meet the academic, social, and emotional challenges of a formal kindergarten classroom. We use guidelines created by the United States Public Broadcasting System to help us create a learning environment and educational program that will best meet the needs of our students. Kindergarten and Primary School
Our students work toward mastering the United States Common Core Standards that have been adopted in public schools throughout the USA. http://www.corestandards.org/ To reach this goal, teachers create engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons in reading, writing, speaking and listening, math, science, social studies, art, and physical education. Many sources are used to create lessons including up-to-date American textbooks and workbooks.
